Now you can export all the primary genomic and annotation information into ASCII text files for any genome you have access to through your ERGO subscription. ERGO can provide you with the following output formats:
- Whole Genome EMBL Format, including DNA and protein sequences; IG, COGs and Pfam annotations and IG pathway connections
- Fasta Formatted Protein Sequences
- Fasta Formatted DNA Sequences for Contig Data
- Fasta Formatted DNA Sequences for Protein Encoding Genes
To download data, go to the green general ERGO menu bar and select Export Genome Data from the Query menu (if you have an preferred organism established you can also use this function from the Query menu in the brown preferred organism menu bar).
Once the page loads, use the Select Organism box to choose the organism you would like to download data for. Currently, only genomes 100 Mb and smaller can be exported. You can only select one genome at a time for download. Use the Select Export Format drop down menu to select the format you would like your data to be exported to. Then click the Export button to start the process.
ERGO generates these files as you request them, so please be patient while it works -- especially if you have asked for EMBL-formatted files for larger genomes. It can take several minutes for the server to prepare your file. When the file generation is complete, you will be taken to a page that provides you a link to the file that was created for you to download. Click that link to download the file to your computer.
All files that ERGO prepares for download will be compressed using the standard Zip compression algorithm. In order to open the archive and read your data file, you will need to have WinZip or Stuffit or a similar Zip archive extractor. All primary data files are in ASCII text format and can be read in any program that can read ASCII text. Please note that these files are generated on a Linux OS server and that not all Windows text readers handle Linux/Unix file formatting the same way. If you are using a Windows OS computer, we recommend that you open these files with WordPad, Word or another more sophisticated text document reader instead of NotePad.
